2007
The November  group discussed the Perry County GIS map at
www.semogis.com/  This complex map uses data provided by the Perry County Assessor and MSDIS, including extensive data on every parcel in the county.   SEMO Regional Planning staff, Stan Balsman and Jeremy Tanz, developed the GIS map using ESRI's ArcMap software and SEMOGIS used ESRI's ArcServer program to publish it to the Internet.  This sophisticated GIS map service is the first of its kind in the area.  The group discussed map features and security.

The Southeast Regional GIS Workshop was a success!  (more info)

The July users group extensively discussed addressing, techniques of bringing CAD files into ArcMap, the upcoming workshop, and the statewide aerial photography program.  We hope to have an ESRI representative, Kim Burns, at the next meeting to answer software questions. If anyone has any ideas or issues that they would like to see addressed at future meetings, let us know.  If you would like to give a presentation on what you are doing in your community and share it with the group, let us know and we will schedule you at a future meeting.

The May users group discussed sharing geodatabases, a visit by an ESRI representative, and setting up a new GIS.  Cape County is now sharing their GIS at http://www.emapsplus.com/

The March users group held an informal discussion on addressing, GPS accuracy, roads.  GIS professionals from  the City of Jackson, Perry County, and the area compared addressing strategies and experiences.

Stan Balsman, Director of Graphic Services,  SEMORP&EDC,  and Jeremy Tanz, CAD Technician, SEMORP&EDC, led the January 2007 meeting.  They presented the new GIS map the SEMORP&EDC prepared for Perry County. This geodatabase contains a vast quantity of data with many interactive map layers.  They prepared several print templates which enables County personnel to easily prepare attractive printouts of specific lots or other map areas.  This extensive mapping project moves Perry County to the forefront of GIS capability in this region.
Danny Stratton, Operations Manager, Show-Me Net, Inc., gave an update of the regional GIS map server at http://www.semogis.com/  The map server now has basic maps of all seven counties in this region, four "specialty" maps, and a new City of Cape Girardeau map including parks, school districts, voting precincts, and ward and zoning districts.

2006
Stan Balsman,  led the November meeting.  Stan gave a hands on presentation on how to make and print a map in ESRI's ArcMap program.  This step by step demonstration was very informative, especially the details on how to print an attractive map with a title, legend, north arrow, and borders.  A MoDOT guest suggested saving maps as PDF files to facilitate printing maps on varying paper sizes.

Frank Wideman, Univ. of Missouri Extension Natural Resources Engineer, led the user group at its May and September meetings.  The group discussed customizing toolbars, buffers, and selection in ArcView, GIS resources, and using USGS F-codes. Frank reminded the group to use NAD83 units and decimal degrees in GPS units.  In the September meeting, Frank gave a step-by-step presentation on moving waypoints from a GPS unit to map software on a PC.  He also gave an excellent demonstration on adding XY data to maps.

Rich Daume, City of Cape Girardeau GIS Coordinator, led the June meeting.  Rich gave an excellent short history of Cape's GIS experiences in mapping storm and wastewater sewer systems.  He showed the group some of the City's GPS equipment, including a Trimble unit with antenna.
Rich gave a detailed description of how he checks out data from the database to handheld GPS units running ArcPad, which workers take to the streets for changes.  The changes are added back into the City database after updates.

Pat Stack with Seiler Instruments of St. Louis presented information about Trimble GPS units and software at the July meeting.  Pat brought several units and a nifty GPS enabled camera for the group to examine.
